XRV Battery Upgrade

I have successfully installed my Floatwheel XRV Drop In kit. Thanks to the PEV.DEV community, the setup was smooth and I am enjoying the unlocked potential with the customization and extra torque VESC brings. However, now I want some additional SPEED!

I prefer not to rewire or solder any components. Fungineers sells a drop in battery kit. The battery is 84V 20S2P 5.6Ah, 403W P28A battery pack with a new BMS. Anyone know if this is compatible with the Floatwheel XRV drop in kit? Tony Lai tells me it is but wanted to also seek out the opinion of the pev.dev users.

Thanks!!

I don’t know but if it works could be amazing. I’m curious if the hypercore motor can handle it without overheating issues.

For the current Fungineers Funwheel ST 20S2P 18650 battery, the issue for hooking it up to the current Floatwheel XRV kit is mostly LED electrical details. The Fungi LED is 12V and the XRV kit is 5V leds that I know of. Maybe with an aftermarket LED module everything could be made nearly plug and play.

more people need to look into the easiest way to make this work. Selling replacement harnesses might be a good plan also, just stick a new battery and maybe box with the harness special made for the FW XRV kit + led upgrade parts on the controller side.

To be honest, I had the same train of thought when I got into VESC. Now that some of the products are presumingly “Plug’n’Play”-ish, I foolishly thought I can get away with it.

Yet you will end up realizing that all VESC components use vastly different standards, different components and are not following a common system that you simply plug in.

As an electronics beginner myself, I can only recommend to get comfortable with soldering. You will need it eventually. And you will learn a and unlock a new skill in your life

Checkout our Soldering 101 tutorial and let us know if that is of any value: Soldering 101 for VESC (incl. Video)

Soldering is not a rocket science…well unless you actually solder rockets.
It seems a bit scary and overwhelming in the beginning, but the learning curve is not as steep as it looks like.
