Testing FM XR BMS

I am attempting to VESC a XR, but might have bricked my FM BMS even though I was being careful of the polarity issues and only plugging in the balance wires after the battery and then the reverse order. Hopefully this is just a wiring issue. How can I bench test the BMS without using the FM controller? I have an OWIE wired in as well, but I’m not getting power to it. What wires and voltages turn on the BMS?

Thanks,

When configured as a “Charge only BMS”, would the BMS power on when there is 63V from the charger (XLR Pin 3) being applied to the purple wire going to the BMS? At which point I should be able to test for voltages (5v) at the test points that feed the OWIE, and see the charger turn RED, correct? Are there other checks that I can do?

I’m putting this here incase someone else needs to feel comforted that thier BMS is working as expected.

I did confirmed my wiring was good, but found my patience may not have been. I plugged charger back in and was going to test for 5v at the OWIE, but the blue LED on the mini D1 board (OWIE), began flashing. I was able to open the website\app and see OWIE was working and the cell voltages were being reporting. About a minute later the charger flipped over to charging (Red LED). After a few more minutes the charger started flipping back and forth from RED to GREEN (random intervals), while OWIE showed the max voltage of 63V being bounced against along with the charge current.

So it looks like this is the expected behaviour of the Future Motion Onewheel XR BMS in charge only mode.

However, this did show me that I did not consider how to get battery voltage while riding. I think I need to find a way to enable the OWIE while charinging and riding to avoid range anxiety. Does anyone have a fix?

Thanks,
