Also should mention reports of needing to charge for some time before it will actually turn on. Stuck on out of the box basically.
Would it be possible for someone to revise STEP 2 in the guide to include the information about horizontally scrolling to find the Motor CFG tab? I read through the guide several times, had a laptop open and phone connected to my board. At step two, I was confused because I had no idea where Motor CFG tab was. The logical looking place was in Motor Setupā¦which led to me loading ādefault configā then overwriting my backup (because I did not realize there was a RESTORE CONFIGS button I was supposed to hit instead).
I think it would help a lot of future V kit newbs to be told explicitly how to find that motor cfg tab. It has apparently happened enough times that thereās a guide that denotes the exact mistake I made: GTV / XRV / PintV Power Kit - Accidentally Reset Configs / Motor Squeal on Engagement; How to Fix?
I think a simple note in Step Two and perhaps an illustration would prevent a lot of these issues in the future and save a lot of frustration and panic!
Fair enough, thanks for the feedback! For what itās worth, if you followed Step 1 before Step 2 and Backed Up, this shouldnāt be a major issue, as selecting to Restore Configs should simply revert back to the out of box configurations, as if nothing happened.
I did follow step 1. But when I went back to start, I hit ābackup configsā thinking that would bring up something if I had a backup. I didnāt spot the ārestore configsā right next to itā¦
When it asked if I wanted to do a backup, I figured āsure why not? I can just select which backup to restore.ā Easy peasy. I figured it would be like many backup processes on computers, phones, etc.
Obviously the assumption that the app saves multiple backups turned out to be WRONG. And thus I ended up needing the guide to extricating oneself from the deep hole of dumbness I dug for myself.
In hindsight, I donāt think any of my assumptions were that unreasonable based on experience with most other software these days. Clearly others go through a similar thought process and proceed to bust their boards too (thus the guide exists).
I think this is a particularly high risk for total newbs like me who get the V kits from Tony. We want to get off Future Motion and do not have the technical know-how or desire to source and solder everything. So we end up buying a drop-in kit. For people like us, VESC TOOL navigation is a totally new thing. We donāt have any experience with the app, so the hidden āmotor cfgā tab is just a big mistake waiting to happen!
I know that for all the guys out there who are super technical and have been living and breathing VESC Tool for years, navigating VESC Tool is likely so trivial it seems ridiculous not to know how to get around! But for us drop-in kit folk, itās ALL new and we have no idea what we do not know!
P.S. Thank you for all your hard work in helping people enjoy this pasttime!
