Hi everyone, I’m running a Hypercore motor with a Lil Foccer v4 and a 20s2p pack made of Molicel P28A cells (BMS is charge-only).
From what I understand, each P28A cell can handle about 6 A of charge safely, which means my 2p pack should safely regen around –8 to –10 A total. That’s also consistent with the simple formula (parallel cells × –4).
But in many places (configs shared online, spreadsheets, Discord, etc.) I see people with similar packs recommending Battery Current Max Regen ≈ –40 A.
My question is: why is such a high regen limit recommended for a small 2p pack?
-
Is this just to allow very short current spikes (while the average stays low)?
-
Or is there something in how VESC handles regen that makes a higher value safer than it looks on paper?
-
With a charge-only BMS, isn’t there a real risk of overstressing or overvolting the pack if regen is set too high?
I want to make sure my settings protect both the battery and me as a rider, so any clarification would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
